Nitrate Removal in Flora Vista, NM

Nitrate Removal in Flora Vista, NM

Nitrate gets into wells from fertilizer, manure and septic systems. The federal drinking water limit is 10 mg/L as nitrogen. Above that, infants under six months are at risk of methemoglobinemia, often called blue baby syndrome. Boiling does not help. It concentrates the nitrate. Flora Vista, NM Well Water Treatment provides nitrate removal for private wells in Flora Vista, NM.

We start with well water testing for nitrate and nitrite, plus sulfate. Sulfate matters because some nitrate resins prefer it and can dump nitrate back into the water if the system is set up wrong.

Treatment options:

• Nitrate-selective anion exchange resin for whole-house treatment, regenerated with salt
• Point-of-use reverse osmosis at the kitchen tap
• Fixing the source when possible, like a well too close to a septic field or a wellhead in a low spot that collects runoff

Shallow wells and dug wells in farm country tend to run higher. Levels can change with the season, so one clean test in a dry month is not the whole picture.
